About Me

designing your baby's nursery

Are you having a baby? Do you have the nursery done? There are so many decisions that go into planning a baby's nursery. What color do you want to make the walls? Should you keep the colors neutral in case the baby happens to be the opposite gender you are planning for? What bedding will look great but not pose any safety risks to your son or daughter? Is there furniture that can be used throughout the baby's childhood instead of just during the infant year? You can learn all about planning the design of the nursery on my website.

How Small Touches Make Big Differences In Home Interior Designs

People doing home interior design work often focus on the big things when they plan how their residence will look. It is important to have a grand plan in mind. However, you need to also incorporate the little touches to take a residential interior design to the next level.

That sounds simple enough, but it can entail as much planning as the big ideas do. However, you can do the little things well by considering these four elements of a design.

Develop a Visual Focal Point for Every Room

Humans' eyes want to find something to dwell upon. Every room should have one visual point that instantly serves that purpose whenever anyone enters the space. If you have a living room with a chimney, for example, you might paint it contrasting colors to make it stand out from the wall. Likewise, you can set the furniture to create lines pointing toward the fireplace for emphasis. The goal is to give the viewer's eye a few cues pointing to the preferred focus of the room.

Bring Life Literally into the Space

Plants are excellent additions to all homes. Even one or two plants in a room can add greenery and a sense of life. If you're feeling adventurous, you can even experiment with plants that have less common colors.

As a bonus, plants add a little air filtration. They also can serve as a reminder of life during the winter months when stuff outside doesn't always look so vital. Be careful about your plant choices if you have children or pets, though. Only select plants you're sure won't be toxic to them.

Declutter

Especially if you've lived in a house for many years, the space can develop a legacy of use. That's not bad, given that houses are meant to be lived in. However, the clutter can become disorderly and have an adverse influence on home interior design.

Take the opportunity to think about what does or doesn't need to be in a specific room. If something doesn't add functionality and isn't serving a strong visual purpose, you might be further ahead to store it until you do need it.

Maximize Natural Light

Windows are the optimal way to bring natural light into a room. However, you might now be in a position to add more windows to a house. You can alternatively use a larger mirror strategically positioned near a window to scatter more light through the space. Likewise, even opting for thinner or lighter-colored curtains can make a difference.
